Children and Parenting – The Three Greatest Benefits that Your Child Can Gain by Playing Tumbang Preso
It is obvious that your kid will have a total workout if he plays tumbang preso, with all the running that it requires. However, more than just burning calories, here are some benefits that your child can get from the Filipino sport.
First, your child can improve his psychomotor skills. Having to topple a can fifteen feet away with a simple rubber slipper is very challenging. This allows your child to learn how to control his muscles better, as this task requires lots of concentration and restraint. With better psychomotor skills, you’re child will have a better chance to participate in an active lifestyle when he grows up.
Second, your child will gain a healthy sense of competition. The problem with a lot of people today is that they are already okay with just okay. However, the key to success in life is always having that drive to be better than what you are today. Being a tumbang preso “guardian” for long stretches of time is frustrating, and this leads your child to teach himself how to perform better next time. He will learn later on that the latter is the better option.
Third, your child will learn how to deal with interpersonal conflict. A lot of people contend that tumbang preso can hurt kids because the guardian can get accidentally hit with the slippers. However, if this does happen, the guardian will have to choose between retaliating against the offender, and letting the situation pass so that everyone can still have fun.
Your child will develop prudence and temperance. Being an attacker who cannot topple the tin can even once, or being the guardian most often, can be challenging for you child. However, he wants to have fun even if it isn’t that much fun anymore, so he will need to have the patience needed to learn the sport, rather than arguing with the rest the kids.
These small things matter especially when the child learns them in the formative years of his or her life. You know as a parent that you will not be with your child forever, so you want to let him learn things that will help him cope better with the game called life.
