Avoiding Children Abduction – What you and your kids need to know

According to recent crime statistics 797,500 children are abducted a year. This is an incredible amount of children if you think about it. Going through the unbearable pain of losing a child due to abduction is something you would rather avoid. While there is no guarantee this is going to happen, it’s important to teach your children from a young age about certain safety measures they should be taking to avoid children abduction.

When dealing with young children, it’s important to drill into them the importance of avoiding strangers. Children always presume a stranger is an older, scaring looking guy who might have bad intentions. Point out a whole range of adults that are strangers. Make sure that they understand the concept they shouldn’t talk or take anything from someone they don’t know. This is an important component of preventing children abduction.

If you have two or more children, create a buddy system with them. Tell your children that at no stage should any of them walk alone. If you only have one child, speak to a few other mothers and try to get a buddy system going. With it, the children should know that under no condition they can walk alone, unattended. While it’s not advisable to create alarm with your kids, make sure they understand the dangers for kids living in today’s world.

As a parent, you should also become extremely careful about where and how you treat your children. If you go to the movies or a restaurant, make sure you accompany younger children to the bathroom. People who are interested in kidnapping kids go to extremely crowded places, simply because it’s easier to get a child in and out. Escort your children until they are old enough (around twelve or thirteen).  Take your child to the nearest police station and let them take their fingerprints. This will help if your child is a victim of children abduction.

With common sense, a keen eye and communication with your kids, you can keep them safe from being abducted. If you would like to learn more, check out these 20 Golden Rules to Avoid Children Abduction at InfoZooms.com.
